Scouting

Scouter Development Training Course

The Greensburg Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting will offer a special training course to those 18 years of age and older. This course is designed to help Scouters come to a better understanding of the role of religious faith in their lives and to use Scouting as a form of youth ministry. (This popular course is offered each year in September at the Diocesan Catholic Retreatoree). Through a series of guided reflections, both the individual and the group examines Scripture passages to ascertain how God is calling each to respond. The Scouter does not have to know any specific doctrines, nor is an extensive knowledge of Scripture presumed. What is of critical importance, however, is that the Scouter be reflective and be willing to share those reflections with others. The course will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg on Saturday, March 10 from 9:00 - 3:00pm in the upper hall. (Please park in the lower lot). The cost is $10 which includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Registration by calling Glenda Sekerchak at 724-446-5197 or e-mail gsekerchak@dioceseofgreensburg.org.

GIRL SCOUT SPIRIT DAY

The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting for Girls will host a "Mary, Queen of the Living Rosary” Spirit Day for all Girl Scouts in grades 2-12 on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Mount St. Macrina in Uniontown, PA. The day begins with registration at 8:30am and concludes with the celebration of Mass at 4:00pm (fulfills the Sunday obligation).   Learn about Mary and the Rosary, how to make a rosary along with other activities. An outdoor  “Living Rosary” (weather permitting) will take place before Mass. Participants will work towards their Rosary Patch. Early Bird registration fee is $18 through March 2nd. Cost is $20 after March 2nd. The cost includes Continental Breakfast, Lunch, Crafts, Program & Patch. Although this is a Catholic program, non-Catholics and non-Scouts may also participate.   Registration forms are available by calling Glenda at 724-446-5197 or e-mail gsekerchak@dioceseofgreensburg.org.   Registration deadline is March 16th.

Peace Camp

Make the World a Peaceful Place!

Peace Camp seeks to develop peaceful, empowering communities and educate for peace, nonviolence and social justice.  Peace Camp encourages today’s youth – from kindergarten children to college students – to practice peace-making skills in the face of increasing violence in communities, classrooms and homes and to model nonviolent approaches to resolving conflict.

Peace Camp 2011 brought together 24 youth, plus 8 Counselors, Grades 4-8, from diverse socio-economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.  The young campers from all faiths have an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a day camp experience that reinforces seven themes:  To respect self and others; to communicate better; to listen; to forgive; to respect nature; to play creatively and to be courageous. Peace Camp 2010 brought together 30 children . . .
